Plan Ahead — Book Your Hotel Room Early
Posted by LAC Publicity Subcommittee under Hotel
There are many meetings that come to Chicago and one of the biggest is the National Restaurant Association (including the International Wine, Spirits and Beer Event), on May 17-20 this year. Their website makes reference to an expected 74,000 attendees! What this means to you is a rush to find a hotel room . . .
If you’re coming to Chicago this year, reserve room at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, MLA’s annual meeting site, either online or by calling 888-421-1442. With competition from 74,000 visitors, there will not be many alternative options. While there are plenty of rooms at the Hyatt, hotel management will likely receive pressure to open uncommitted rooms to other visitors. So, be smart and plan ahead and register ASAP!
Still undecided about attending this year’s meeting? Take a few minutes to check out MLA’s preliminary program and review the scheduled speakers, CE courses, and presentations. Early-bird registration is open until April 11th.
And remember, if you have any questions about visiting Chicago and attending the meeting, your Local Assistance Committee is here to help!

Hyatt Regency SOLD OUT May 17 & 18. As of today March 5, only May 19 & 20 is still available. This was verified by a phone call to the reservations desk.
Can LAC publicity committee offer other suggestions? A review of a few hotel sites showed limited availability nearby and rates of close to $400/nt.

Due to high demand for rooms, MLA has reserved a second block of rooms at the Hotel Orrington, approximately 30 minutes North of the Hyatt. A free shuttle will be provided. See our recent post for details: http://npc.mlanet.org/mla08/2008/03/12/mla-hotel-update-block-of-rooms-available-at-hotel-orington/

Our staff attending the conference ran into the same problem; the Hyatt block was booked and the best deal we could find in the neighborhood was around $300/night.
I used Tripadvisor.com, searched under “hotels,” “specialty lodging” and found Stan Properties furnished apartments at 400 E South Water St., just .4 miles, or about 4 blocks away. We were able to get three one-bedroom furnished APARTMENTS for $185/night + 7.5% tax. Comes with a complete kitchen, with cooking and eating utensils, fitness room, sauna, pool, etc. And a Beautiful view. They also have three other properties a little further away, but still within walking distance of the MLA conference hotel.
The website is http://www.spsuites.com/locations if you would like to see what the property looks like. 400 E. South Water St is location F on the map. From there you can also look at the other locations within walking distance of the conference hotel.
The “Book Now” button lets you check availability; we called to make the reservation.
Forget the hotels.
