Library Book Discussions

Similar to other “One Book” initiatives, the 2010 MLA National Program Committee chose Daniel Pink’s book A Whole New Mind for MLA members to read and discuss before, during, and after the DC meeting next year.
Reading about this reminded me of the poster presented by Rajia Tobia and Susan Hunnicutt at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Libraries entitled: Developing a Community Reading Program in a Health Sciences Center Setting: One Community/One Book 2008.
I’m intrigued by this idea. Are other libraries currently doing such initiatives or have you in the past? If so leave a message about your experiences as a comment to this post.

I also thought this was cool! We haven’t done anything like this, but I’d definitely like to hear more about it from those who have.

UW - Madison has selected In Defense of Food as a common read for the whole campus next year. We’ll be doing lots of tie-ins at the health-sciences end of campus, but planning is just starting. I’d love to hear any ideas people have for programming!
