The Public Services Section Program featured the Clinical Librarians from the Eskind Biomedical Library (EBL) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. If you are a Clinical Librarian and missed this session, make sure you get a recording because the stuff they shared was truly inspiring!
The librarians talked about the EBL staff training program, the training modules and conferences, the Clinical Informatics Consult Service (CICS), the library’s integration into the EMR and the patient portal, and their latest foray into clinical and translational research. Very impressive!
What amazed me the most was how systematic and thorough their process is, from training all the way to implementation. They define metrics before forging ahead with new projects so they can measure impact. They even did a randomized controlled trial to measure the effectiveness of their CICS program! They are cherished amongst the Vanderbilt Medical Center staff and other clinical librarians look up to them as well! They truly do make librarians look good!
