One Health is Jamie Stevenson’s first time attending MLA. I caught up with her during Monday’s poster session, at which she presented her poster “Partnering for Value.” Like me, Stevenson is a bit of an outsider — I don’t work in a library, while her professional credential is a master’s in public health rather than the ALA-accredited master’s which predominates at MLA.
Another aspect that made her presence unique is that Stephenson works not at a health sciences library but at the Library of Congress. However, she and her colleagues thought One Health would be a logical forum for their mixed-methods study on opportunities for further involvement by federal LIS professionals in health care and health IT. As I told Jamie, I found her project and her presence at the meeting refreshing, both because it demonstrated the poster session organizers took a “big-tent” approach to content presenters and because it showed professionals from other disciplines are showing an interest in our field.
