The day began with our co-sponsorship of Sunrise Yoga. We welcomed the joint venture with the Complementary and Alternative Medicine SIG. A room full of us stretched and concentrated on the breath, grounded our feet and raised the crown of our heads to the sky. What a great way to start the major part of our conference!
In the question and answer session of Dr Besser’s excellent McGovern Lecture, Hospital Librarian, Judy Kraemer from California asked the speaker for advice on how to convince hospital administrators not to close the hospital’s library. He said, he was not aware of the situation and quickly added that Hospital Librarians need to demonstrate their value-added services.
This was the main topic at our Executive Board Meeting today. My year as Chair of the Hospital Libraries Section will be dedicated to supporting Hospital Librarians in demonstrating their added value and hopefully save their libraries from closing. Help me think of a clever name for our initiative. (Go For It Initiative, Smart Moves Initiative) All of us need to play a role. If you have a plan, If you want to lead a group, if you have a thought from outside the box, let me know.
