One new exhibitor, Dove Press recognizes the important role librarians play in the Open Access movement and is here to promote Dove Press Open Access journals. These journals are peer reviewed, but they also work hard to have a fast turn around on revision comments and then publication to get new information and research published and available. Ask about levels of institutional membership plans for discounts on author fees for researchers at your institution.
INTELECOM is another first time MLA exhibitor. Stop by and find out more about their new product tailored to 2 and 4-year Nursing and Allied Health programs: collections of full-length videos and topic-specific clips for Anatomy & Allied Health and Nursing. These resources are embeddable or can be referenced with permanent URLs, and are 100% close captioned.
CrossRef is here to talk to librarians about CrossMark, a new service that they belive librarians will be interested in promoting to their user communities. CrossMark is covered by publishers and is free for users. When you see the CrossMark logo on a document, you can click on it to see the current status of a the document: whether it is up to date, if there is an updated version, if it has been withdrawn, or other information. CrossMark works by associating information with a document’s DOI.
OpenAthens MD (Managed Directory), another First Time Exhibitor at MLA is here to let MLA librarians know about their service, used by the United Kindom National Health Service, the United States Navy, and hospitals and schools worldwide. OpenAthens supports “fully hosted, secure, onsite, and remote access to electronic resources.” This service can be managed by librarians without IT staff support and allows for differentiated permissions for specific groups or individuals, in addition to library-wide or organization-wide access. Usage statistics on individual products can be accessed at any time in table or chart formats.
